The SLAP Loader for SIG P320: Time-Saver or Gimmick?
Let’s be honest. Reloading magazines is a pain. It slows you down, wears out your thumbs, and can suck the fun out of range day. If you’re running a SIG P320, there’s a tool that might change your whole loading routine. It’s called the SLAP Loader, made by Unorthodox Designs and sold exclusively through GunMag Warehouse.
GunMag Warehouse did send this to us to try, but it doesn’t alter our opinion on the product.
So, is it legit? Or just another poorly executed good idea? Let’s take a look at it.
The Bear Creek Arsenal Grizzly Compact: Gem or Garbage?
No Assembly Required
Right out of the box, the SLAP Loader is ready to go. No extra pieces. Not putting Tab A into Slot B. It comes with simple instructions, but I didn’t notice them in the box. Instead, I did what guys do and just started messing with it. It took me about 2 tries and 30 seconds to figure it out.
The design is a single solid piece. Nothing fancy. Just insert your P320 magazine, drop in a round, give it a push, and you’re loaded. No, really…it’s that simple.
There is a rubber pad on the bottom to help keep the SLAP Loader from sliding around on the bench or table.
Easy to Use (Even One-Handed)
The standout feature here is simplicity. You can literally use it with one hand while sipping coffee. I did that in the video below. I can’t do that with my Maglula.
The SLAP Loader uses gravity and you’re a minimal amount of pressure to seat rounds. The amount of pressure needed is about what you’d use with a stapler or a three-hole punch. That’s it. No fighting spring tension. No thumb strain.
It’s compatible with any metal SIG P320 magazine, regardless of capacity. Just be sure the round goes in bullet-first and you orient the mag correctly.

A Few Limitations
Let’s get this part out of the way. This version of the SLAP Loader only works with metal mags. It doesn’t play well with some of the aftermarket options out there.
Even though they are not metal, I tried ETS mags. How did they do? Inconsistent and frustrating. You might get a round in here or there if you force it, but it’s not smooth.
I also tried ProMag. Technically works, but takes more effort than the OEM magazines.
The loader shines with OEM metal mags. The newer Magpul magazines also worked well, although the company did mention that some users have had some problems until the springs were broken in.
I also tried it with other platforms like the Walther PDP or Springfield Echelon, just to see if they would work. They didn’t. This is only going to help you with the P320 magazines.
But I have a Glock
If you’re a Glock shooter, they’ve got a version for you, too. Did you really think they wouldn’t? It works exactly the same as this one does. Simple, fast, and easy.
Comparing to Maglula
I’m not trying to throw the Maglula under the bus. It’s a solid, reliable loader that’s worked for years. It fits a lot of magazines.
Maglulas need two hands to load a mag. And sometimes when you’re down to the last couple rounds, especially in stiff new mags, it gets tough. The SLAP Loader avoids that pain point. You’re using gravity and leverage, not thumb strength. It’s a smarter use of energy, and it’s faster.
That said, if you shoot multiple platforms, keep your Maglula. But if it’s a P320 day, this new tool will save you time and effort.

It Unloads Too
Here’s a nice bonus. The SLAP Loader has a built-in stripper. Want to unload a full mag without pushing rounds out with your thumb? Place the little stripper dingus on the round and push. It’s quick and doesn’t beat up your thumb.

Final Verdict
If you shoot a SIG P320 and hate reloading mags, this tool is worth having in your range bag. It’s fast and easy. You’ll spend more time shooting and less time busting your thumbs to get that last round in. I can’t emphasize how easy this device makes loading 320 magazines.
Is it flashy? Not at all. It’s just well-designed and does what it claims.
The SLAP Loader is available exclusively at GunMag Warehouse. At the time of this article, they are $19.99. That’s half the price of an OEM Sig magazine. This is one of those small purchases that make a big difference in your range day.
The Takeaway
- Works great with OEM and Magpul SIG P320 mags
- Simple, durable, and ready to use out of the box
- Doesn’t require strength or coordination to operate
- Not compatible with non-metal or off-brand mags
- Faster and easier than Maglula
If your thumbs are tired and your range time is short, this might be the best $20 tool you’ve never tried.
